Really great. Sadly in my situation my husband had three years of adt and was 70 so it might be four years or never that his libido or anything might return. The other point to make is that if at this stage his testosterone does return in another three years, so may the cancer as it was in lymph and a gleeson 10 (the most aggressive type). His oncologist is expecting it to return with the return of testosterone.
My heart goes out to both of you. Cancer negatively affects both people in a relationship. Gleason 10 is as serious as it gets. I was a Gleason 9 (4 + 5). 3 years of ADT is a long time and the sad truth is that the longer you’re on ADT the harder it is to recover testosterone when ADT ends. On a positive note, however, it’s possible to still have some libido even while on ADT and my urologist prescribed 0.5mg cabergoline twice a week to help and that it did. I still needed injections to achieve erections and will still for a while. It’s also possible to have orgasms without an erection! I suggest you consider buying the book I recommend: “saving your sex life a guide for men with prostate cancer”. It’s well worth the money.
In the meantime, I can’t stress how important it is to maintain non-sexual intimacy. Hold hands. Kiss for the sake of kissing. Give plenty of hugs. Give loving touches throughout the day. Sex is important without a doubt, but intimacy can survive without it.
